The Fool is the first tarot card of the Major Arcana deck. Even though the Fool is the first tarot card in the deck, the number assigned to this card is 0. That is because the Fool has potential that is unlimited and he represents a young and innocent individual that is ready to learn what there is to learn and to experience new things.
The Fool can also be placed at the end of the Major Arcana, after The World card because that is when a new journey begins. However, the Fool’s journey represents someone’s experience from start to finish. The Fool is all about having an open mind that is curious and ready to take in the unexpected. There is a desire to take in some brand new experiences and to enjoy the adventure. Get ready to experience many surprises as there is innocence associated with this card. The Fool is all about being carefree, experiencing new beginnings, curiosity, innocence, and having a free spirit.
Let’s give an example of a freshman starting high school. Elementary school is completed as the diploma has been earned (The World from the old cycle). Now, the freshman is in for a new experience. He does not know what to expect because high school is very different. And this means new adventures will be experienced by the freshman.
When the Fool shows up in reverse, that can represent a few things such as having the fear that is holding you back from trying something new, as well as being reckless, and taking unnecessary risks. For instance, if you want to try out skydiving but you did not take the necessary lessons to learn about what you need to know before doing it – you find a way to go for it anyway, that is quite reckless. That is an example of the Fool in reverse.
The Fool is represented by 0, the planet Uranus, and Enneagram type 7.
