How Can Tarot Help People Who Suffer From Depression?
Tarot can be a beneficial tool for those who suffer from depression. The cards can help you explore your feelings, understand yourself better, and work through your problems. In this post, we’ll discuss how you can use tarot to help those with depression, and we’ll look at some of the specific cards that are especially useful in this context. If you’re struggling with depression, don’t hesitate to give tarot a try – it could make all the difference. Let’s firstly talk about tarot and how it works.
What Is Tarot And How Does It Work
Tarot is a type of reading involving paper cards with images printed on them. The name tarot refers to any such deck of cards. Tarot was most likely first used in ancient Egypt, where it is thought to have begun as a variation of the game Rummy. Its history is rich and full of myth. However, there is no conclusive evidence that tarot originated in Ancient Egypt. Some people think the tarot started with the Chinese, and some believe it came from India, and others believe it evolved from the playing cards we know today. There is no definite answer, but the tarot’s history stretches back to 1440 AD.
Tarot is thought of as a tool for predicting the future. However, many types of readings use tarot: love and relationships; physical/spiritual health; career, money, work; family matters. These are only a few examples of the types of insight tarot can provide, though this tool has many more uses.
There are 78 total cards in a deck of tarot cards. There are four “suits” meanings: Swords are about conflict, Wands are about passion, Cups are about emotions, and Coins/Pentacles are about finance. These four suits combined with the 22 cards of the major arcana make a deck of tarot cards. The major arcana is the set of cards that have more complex meanings, and they deal with life changes, spiritual growth, and other abstract concepts. In contrast, the minor arcana are considered more straightforward in their readings. Each suit has ten numbered cards (Ace through Ten) and four court cards (Page, Knight, Queen, and King). The court cards are the four most common archetypes, based on Jungian psychology: Page/Knave (child), Knight (father figure), Queen (mother figure), and King (self).
It is important to note that you can use tarot in many different ways. Tarot should be used as a tool for gaining insight, not as the answer to every question. It would be best if you never used it to replace common sense, logic, or other responsible decision-making processes. It is also a great tool to help depression and mental health issues. Let’s talk about that.
How To Use Tarot To Help With Depression
There are many ways to describe mental health as it is such an expansive topic. Each person has their way of feeling or expressing emotions, so there can never be one universal set of criteria that fits everyone. There are, however, some common symptoms that people experience when they’re experiencing a mental health issue. These symptoms vary depending on which mental health disorder the person is struggling with and how severe their symptoms are.
This is why I chose to write about depression and tarot reading: there’s a lot of misinformation about both topics. In this article, I will outline the symptoms of depression and how you can use tarot cards to help the reader understand themselves better.
Depression is one of the most common mental disorders. However, the definition of depression has changed over time, according to WebMD. It used to be that if your mood was low or you didn’t feel like doing anything, it resulted from “a touch of the blues,” which many people experience only during depressing situations such as finals week. While this is true, doctors diagnose not so much sadness but emotional numbness and a lack of motivation.
Many people diagnosed with depression find that they cannot feel emotions, even when something incredible such as a birth or a wedding, according to The Mayo Clinic. For this reason, it’s hard for them to make social connections, which only exacerbates the problem.
Tarot cards can help those struggling with depression because they help the reader learn about themselves. By drawing three cards, you can get a lot of information about the root of the problem, and by attracting more cards over time, you can monitor your progress as you try to solve that problem.
When dealing with mental health issues such as depression, it’s essential to seek professional help. However, you can also use tarot cards as a tool to help psychologists and counselors find the root of the problem. Tarot is not magic; it’s based on archetypes that symbolize inner conflict, which Carl Jung first studied in the early 1900s. Drawing three cards at a time will give you a snapshot of your internal conflict. If you feel like this could benefit you or someone you know, then try it out.
Tarot Can Help You Understand The Cause Of Your Internal Conflict
You are having a difficult day as depression is taking hold of you. This is the best time to look into why you have a bad day. If you cannot do this on a terrible day when you cannot get out of bed, that is understandable. Choose a day where you can function but are having a low day. Pull your cards and then sit quietly and look into why you are struggling at the moment. If you prefer to use one card instead of three, go with one.
Let’s choose one card as an example of why you are having a low day. You pull Three of Cups, a celebratory card involving friends or new creations. Let’s pick the keyword “friends,” and perhaps that can be an issue that is fueling your depression. You find that this resonates. Perhaps you wish you had more friends, or you feel your friends are not supportive, or anything else revolving around friends. Then ask yourself if you think if you had better friends or even one friend who cared about you would help you manage your depression better. That is some insight that you can look into provided by the tarot. Bring this up with your therapist, too, if you have one.
If you’ve been struggling with depression, tarot might be able to help. Tarot cards may not always provide the exact answer or even a solution for your problems, but they can often give perspective on an issue that you wouldn’t have considered otherwise.
