There are different opinions on the matter when it comes to kids and tarot. Some people believe that kids should start learning to read tarot cards at a young age, while others think it’s better to wait until they’re older.

So, what’s the correct answer? Well, it depends on your personal beliefs. If you think that kids can benefit from learning about tarot, then go for it! But if you’re not sure, it might be worth waiting until they’re a bit older. After all, kids are still learning and growing, and they might not be ready to understand everything about tarot yet.

That said, there are some things to keep in mind if you decide to teach your kids about tarot. First of all, make sure that they’re old enough to understand the concepts involved. Secondly, be sure to explain everything more effortlessly for them to understand. And finally, always be there to answer any questions they have.

Kids Have The Ability To Read Tarot

Kids can learn how to read the tarot. They are intuitive and often have vivid imaginations, making them well-suited for this activity. However, teaching kids how to read tarot requires patience and sensitivity. Therefore, it would be best to be sure that they are mature enough to understand the symbolism and meaning behind the cards before you start teaching them.

If you do decide to teach your kids how to read tarot, make sure that they are always supervised when practicing. It’s also important to set some ground rules, such as not using the cards to predict the future negatively.

Ultimately, it’s up to parents to decide if kids should learn to read tarot. However, if you choose to teach them, make sure that you do so responsibly and respectfully. This is a potentially powerful tool and should be treated as such. If you do decide to allow your kids to try learning the tarot, let’s talk about the best tarot spreads for them to know.

What Are The Best Tarot Spreads For Kids To Learn?

Here are four simple tarot spreads that are perfect for kids:

  • The Three-Card Spread: This is the most basic tarot spread, and it’s perfect for kids. It gives them a quick snapshot of their current situation.
  • The Celtic Cross Spread: This is a more advanced spread, but it’s suitable for kids who want to learn more about their future. Even though I don’t care for this spread, I am still putting it out there.
  • The Past, Present, and Future Spread: This spread is great for kids who want to know what’s going on in their lives right now, in the past, and in the future.
  • The Yes or No Spread: This spread is perfect for kids who want to know the answer to a specific question.

These are just a few of the many tarot spreads perfect for kids. Experiment with different spreads and see which ones work best for your child. Tarot can be an excellent way for kids to learn about themselves and their futures, and it can be a lot of fun too! But be careful as you want to ensure that kids understand that the end is not written in stone. That is why it is essential to teach kids about free will.

If You Teach Kids About Using Tarot, Teach Them About Free Will

Kids need to understand from a young age that free will influences their future and how nothing is written in stone. Therefore, you can tell them that they are free to make decisions, but they have to face the consequences of those decisions. For instance, if your child decides not to do their homework, they can do a past, present, and future spread on what will happen if they don’t do their homework.

For instance, if they pull the Four of Cups as the past card, which means they are bored and unhappy with their school work, they pull the Hierophant reversed as the present card, which is their desire not to do their homework as they are rebelling. Then the future card they pull could be the Tower – which means they will get into trouble in unexpected and upsetting ways. Therefore, if your kids understand the meaning of that spread and understand how this action will impact them, they may think twice about not doing their homework.

Therefore, they will learn that their consequence is not pretty through the tarot, which can help them make better decisions. That is a significant advantage of kids learning the tarot right there. Once again, however, it is up to the parents.

What Is The Best Age For Kids To Learn Tarot?

The best age for kids to learn tarot depends on their emotional, social, and intellectual development. However, the average child from eight and up can understand the tarot. That is the age when kids begin to develop empathy, can start to make decisions for themselves, and can learn how to help friends and family. Additionally, they can learn to make plans and avoid drama at that age.

Some advanced children can learn the tarot when they are younger, and other developmentally delayed kids are best to learn it when they are older. Every child is different, and some kids will not be interested in learning it. Some decks are suitable for kids, as my Penguin deck is perfect for learning the tarot. There are also many child-friendly decks on Etsy, such as the Magical Girl tarot deck and the Chubby Bun tarot deck. Look through Etsy and Amazon to find age-appropriate decks your child will like.
